FIGHT FOR OUR FUTURE RECAP

23 out of 23 victories

Sister District leaders Sarah Curmi, Susan Farrell, Shawn Werner and Taylor Hogeland hosted the Nov 13 Fight for our Future event. We celebrated the 23 incredible victories Sister District volunteers helped power from Virginia to Iowa to Mississippi to Minnesota. We heard inspiring stories about Sister District’s impact from Delegate Joshua Cole (VA) and Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein (WI).

We are channeling these victories for 2026. Our work is already underway, and this is the moment to deepen it, sharpen it, and charge into the next cycle with even more focus and fire. Sister District leaders, elected officials, and alumni laid out what’s next in the states and how we volunteers can help turn today’s momentum into lasting power.

Here’s the agenda, by time, topic and speaker:

  • 2:28 — Opening Remarks (Sarah Curmi, Executive Director)
  • 7:34 — 2025 Election Results (Taylor Hogeland, Head of Campaigns)
  • 14:20 — Volunteer Impact (Susan Farrell, Head of Organizing)
  • 18:23 — Thank you from the Commonwealth (VA Delegate Joshua Cole)
  • 23:39 — Come for the Cause; Stay for the Community (Catherine Grundmann)
  • 35:04 — Pivot to 2026 (Shawn Werner, Organizing & Political Director)
  • 45:30 — What’s Possible (Sen. Dianne Hesselbein)

Check out a recording of the event and the slide deck.

SDSB’S FIRST CANDIDATE IN 2026

Darrin Camilleri campaign

As Shawn Werner stated at the Nov. 13 Fight for the Future event, Sister District's work for 2026 has already begun. One of the candidates SDSB will be supporting is Darrin Camilleri. After serving three terms in the state house, he won his senate seat in 2022 with the help of Sister District. Darrin has been a driving force in advancing Democratic priorities in Michigan. He has championed increasing school funding, fair wages, and strong union and environmental protections.

Read about Darrin and help him win re-election.
